Welcome To Woodward Academy
Woodward Academy, a non-profit organization that was established in 1995, is a residential treatment facility for male youth. Woodward Academy is located in Woodward, Iowa, 25 miles northwest of Des Moines and is one of the largest employers in Boone County. Our programs are aimed at redirecting delinquent, negative behaviors to positive, socially acceptable patterns. Woodward’s treatment philosophy focuses on behavioral and cognitive change through the establishment of a normative culture using the sociological and cognitive behavioral model as well as offender specific treatment services. Woodward Academy is currently nationally accredited by The Joint Commission. As of January 2010 over 3,300 youth have entered our residential programs.
Woodward Academy is an all-male program which offers three unique programs that are tailored to serve youth with a variety of specific treatment needs. These are a 90-day highly comprehensive program targets youth new to the criminal justice system and are in need of a short term intervention, a community residential program for youth who are in need of a longer length of stay, and a program for males in need of sexual offender treatment. With a unique blend of highly structured programming and emphasis on real-life opportunities, we enable our students to experience success in many of the areas where they have struggled. Woodward Academy also offers one non-residential program, Day School. The Day School serves male and female students from the greater Des Moines and surrounding areas who are struggling in the public school setting. We believe that with this philosophy, our committed staff, central location, and three distinct programs, our school is a place where students can make significant, positive changes in their lives.
